GOT CRAVINGS? TRY THESE FOOD SWAPS
We all get cravings. From that 3pm urge to demolish a block of chocolate, the salty snack attack during Netflix, or the sudden need for lollies when you're low on energy. The good news? You can honour your cravings and stay aligned with your health and fitness goals, it’s all about getting curious and making smarter swaps.
Let’s break it down…
Craving Chocolate After Dinner?
Your body might just want something sweet and comforting, totally normal, especially after a long day or a solid workout.
Try this swap:
Greek yoghurt + a dash of cocoa powder + a drizzle of honey + a few choc chips or cacao nibs.
Why it works:
You still get the rich, chocolatey flavour, but with the bonus of protein and gut-loving probiotics. It’s sweet, satisfying, and keeps you fuller for longer, win-win.
Craving Salty Snacks?
Before you reach for the chips, it might not be about the snack itself. Often, salty cravings are a sign your body needs electrolytes, especially if you’ve been sweating, training, or hydrating a lot.
Try this tip:
Add a pinch of high-quality sea salt to your water, or consider an electrolyte supplement (look for one without loads of sugar).
Why it works:
Sodium plays a key role in balancing fluids in your body. When your sodium levels dip, your brain can trigger salty cravings to correct the imbalance.
Craving Lollies?
When you feel like inhaling a bag of gummy bears, your body might be asking for fast energy, but there’s a better way to answer the call.
Try this swap:
Frozen grapes or a berry smoothie!
Why it works:
Still sweet. Still fun. But way easier on the blood sugar (and the bloat).
Screaming for Ice Cream?
We get it, sometimes only a tub of something creamy will do.
Try this swap:
Blend frozen banana into ‘nice-cream’ and add your favourite toppings!
Why it works:
Sustainability > restriction. Always. This one’s creamy, naturally sweet, and packed with nutrients. Perfect for those dessert cravings without the sugar crash.
Because Balance > Burnout
Our goal at WRK IT is to create a smart balance between our training, nutrition and lifestyle. Eating to reach your goals doesn’t mean giving up all the fun stuff! These swaps are just little hacks we have, but trust us, we’re 100% still here for the choccy, ice cream, and lollies too. It’s all about enjoying it and making it work for you!
